Thayer School's Board was established in 1867 by Sylvanus Thayer in his original "Instrument of Gift" founding the School which now bears his name. It was Thayer's intention that the School "be under the management and control of a Board of Overseers." By agreement of the Thayer Board and Dartmouth Board of Trustees, the name of the Thayer Board of Overseers was changed to "Board of Advisors," effective March 3, 2018.
