"I had the pleasure of visiting IISc last December with a delegation from Dartmouth, and we were graciously received. Already dozens of faculty members and researchers from both institutions across disciplines—including engineering, economics, earth sciences, chemistry, and medicine—are eager to explore new collaborations," says Provost David Kotz '86. "We look forward to the groundbreaking ideas that will emerge from this international partnership."
The initiative is part of Global Dartmouth, a program that enhances strategic international collaborations, fortifying research partnerships and promoting educational exchanges.
Geoffrey Parker, the Charles E. Hutchinson '68A Professor of Engineering Innovation and faculty director of the Irving Institute for Energy and Society, underscores the partnership's timely relevance: "Insights gained through our collaboration can help address the challenges and opportunities arising from the increasing global energy demand. This partnership is primed to drive innovation."
Based in Bengaluru, the Indian Institute of Science is recognized as an Institution of Eminence by the government of India and hosts over 500 faculty members and 4,800 post-baccalaureate students, alongside a growing undergraduate program. The partnership opens myriad opportunities for faculty and students, facilitating research initiatives, symposia, and international studies.
"Our longstanding relationships with leaders from both institutions have shaped a collaborative framework based on trust and shared objectives," says Andrila Hait Chakrabarti, the research program coordinator at the Irving Institute who was instrumental in the initiative.
"We are delighted to partner with Dartmouth to explore new research and educational programs in diverse areas," says Abhishek Singh, chair of the Office of International Relations at the IISc. "This collaboration is a major step forward in our efforts to increase IISc's international reach. It will greatly help researchers and students at both universities leverage new learnings and insights to address important global challenges."
Parker notes that the formalized partnership "stands as a testament to the power of personal relationships, sustained effort, and a unified vision for what can be achieved when communities come together with purpose."
