Launch into Engineering at Thayer

Are you interested in switching to engineering from another area of STEM and need to elevate your engineering skills?
 

Launch into Engineering is a summer-long preparation for our nine-month Master of Engineering (MEng) degree program. In just 10 weeks, you'll build a solid foundation in engineering, enhancing your readiness for the Dartmouth MEng curriculum.
 

You'll take our project-based foundational courses, experience the camaraderie of the Dartmouth Engineering community, gain access to a wealth of resources, and forge valuable connections with faculty, staff, and fellow students.

Preparation for Master of Engineering Studies: Summer 2027

Launch into Engineering runs from late June to late August, just prior to the Fall term start of the MEng Program. During this period, you will be fully engaged in coursework, with opportunities for campus jobs alongside your studies.

Students in ENGS 21: Introduction to Engineering make a simple circuit and learn how to solder wires.

What Launch into Engineering Includes

  • Enrollment in three undergraduate engineering courses:
  • Personalized mentorship: Our dedicated faculty and staff will assist with your transition to graduate studies at Dartmouth.
     
  • Learning by doing: Engage in hands-on engineering projects from the start with access to a vast array of equipment and facilities, including the MShop, the Cable Makerspace, project labs, and more.

How to Apply

No separate application needed! To be considered for Launch into Engineering, simply apply to the on-campus MEng program and complete the Launch section of the application to express your intent. Your eligibility will be evaluated during the MEng admissions review based on your academic background and experience.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for Launch into Engineering aligns with Dartmouth Engineering's standard tuition for a full-time term. Students can apply for need‑based financial aid, which may cover up to 40 percent of summer tuition.

Please note that Launch into Engineering is not eligible for F-1 visa sponsorship at this time. International students are welcome to email the admissions team with questions.
