ENGS 38 - Introduction to Biomedical Engineering

Description

This course introduces the application of engineering principles to medical diagnosis, treatment of disease, physiological monitoring, and rehabilitation. Through case studies, students will explore how engineering advances have transformed medical practice and deepened our understanding of human physiology. Topics include bioinstrumentation, bioelectricity, biotransport, biosensors, biomaterials, biomechanics, and regenerative bioengineering. Discussions will also address patient safety, public policy, regulatory frameworks, and ethical considerations including IRBs and animal use in research. Not open to students who have received credit for ENGS 56.

BIOL 11, CHEM 5, PHYS 13, or PHYS 15
