ENGS 172.20 - Techno-economic Analysis in a Developing Country Context
Description
This course will address the application of techno-economic analysis (TEA) to evaluate the profitability and broader social and environmental impact of potential business ventures involving technologies located in developing countries. Elements of techno-economic analysis will be discussed, including process design and simulation; profitability analysis; and life-cycle assessment. Aspects unique to developing countries – such as poor infrastructure, financing limitations, and unfavorable government policies – will also be considered. Ongoing review and discussion of illustrative TEA examples, including case studies of actual ventures, will reinforce key concepts. The course will also feature a series of expert guest speakers from industry, academia, and non-profit organizations.Notes
