FIRST YEAR
WEEK 1:
Enroll in ENGG 700
Enroll in ENGG 195 - your grade will
remain ON (ongoing) until you complete
28 Jones seminars.
Submit proposed 1st Year Course
Schedule (on DartHub) to the Registrar.
BEFORE THE 2ND TERM:
Form a Special Advisory Committee
with your advisor & discuss your PhD
Program Plan.
Submit approved PhD Program Plan (on
DartHub) to the Registrar.
Course Equivalence Form, with
approvals, should be submitted to the
Registrar (if transferring courses).
JUNE OF 1ST YEAR:
Complete PhD - Student Advisory
Meeting Form and meet with advisor.
Submit the completed form to the
Registrar.
SECOND YEAR
BY FALL OF YEAR 2:
Enroll in ENGG 194, PhD Oral Qualifier.
Turn in Oral Qualifying Planning Sheet.
Refer to the Oral Exam Guide and Oral
Qualifying Exam.
ADVANCE TO PHD CANDIDACY:
Pass Oral Exam (ENGG 194), maintain
B or better averages in coursework &
research, and be recommended by your
advisor.
JUNE OF 2ND YEAR:
Form Thesis Committee in consultation
with your advisor, email MS/PhD
Director for approval.
Complete the PhD Student Thesis
Advisory form and meet with committee.
Submit the completed form to the
Registrar.
THIRD YEAR AND BEYOND
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Complete the Annual PhD Student
Advisory Meeting Report each year
(June).
Complete the Thesis Proposal Form.

Complete ENGG 197 PhD Professional
Workshops.
Participate in ENGG 198
Research-In-Progress Workshop each
year.
Give oral presentation at a professional
conference.
Have at least one manuscript, as first
author, accepted for publication.
Complete a dissertation.
