Video Highlight: Dartmouth's 18th Annual Formula Hybrid+Electric Competition
Jun 06, 2024 | by Catha Mayor & Rusty Spydell
Formula Hybrid+Electric (FH+E)—founded and run by Dartmouth—welcomed over 500 undergraduate and graduate engineering students from across the US and Canada for the 18th annual competition on April 29–May 2 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).
The 14 new and 18 returning teams competed with the hybrid and electric high-performance race cars they designed and built over the previous ten months. To make it "on-track," vehicles had to pass numerous technical and safety inspections, but even teams that don't see the track gain valuable problem-solving and teamwork skills.
"Thanks to all of the teams that competed," said Mike Chapman, director of the competition. "So many comments from the volunteers and sponsors on how polite, respectful, and helpful all teams were. When one team tagged the wall and compromised their impact attenuator—no problem, three teams offered to help with the replacement! You guys rock!"
