Sneak Peek at West End Buildings

Mar 23, 2022   |   Dartmouth News

The Engineering and Computer Science Center and Irving Institute are opening to students.

Two major buildings are officially opening to students on Monday in the West End of campus.

The 160,000-square-foot Engineering and Computer Science Center (ECSC) will serve as a hub for innovation and technology.

As the second-largest academic building on campus, the ECSC will be home to a significant expansion of Thayer School of Engineering as well as an enhanced Department of Computer Science and Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship.

Classes will be held there starting on Monday.

Meanwhile, at the west end of Tuck Mall, the Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society is providing a nexus for interdisciplinary research and education to help meet future energy needs.

Located between Thayer and Tuck School of Business, the 55,000-square-foot Irving Institute is the most energy-efficient building on campus and includes faculty and research offices, teaching spaces, demonstration labs, and a café called The Fern.

Four classes are scheduled for Irving classrooms this spring, along with a Thayer lab section and Dartmouth Energy Collaborative talks.
