Transcript

My name is Kylie Osborne, I'm a '27 and I'm an economics major here at Dartmouth. What drew me into Dartmouth Formula Racing was that they have a lot of opportunities for people who aren't engineers. I was putting a lot of work into the team, and we needed a project manager, and I was good at those skills. I had built those skills being on the business team, being a business team lead, and so my progression has really been just from showing up, being here for milestones, and also I help to guide people to put in the effort and the energy and the time where we need it the most.

I drove the acceleration event at Formula Hybrid this past year. I did six runs, and that was just an incredible experience. I love the feeling of putting my foot to the floor and just zipping away in the car.

I love working with people, I love figuring out how I can help, and so I think that managing the team has been a really great experience for me because it plays into my strong set. I've learned a lot about what it means to be a leader and what it means to be a follower, and there's merit to both.

It helped me land a job, so I would say it's helped me a lot. I'm interning at a space company in the fall, and I never thought that I would be doing that sort of thing, but I have built the skill set of being able to talk shop with engineers. It's all in the jargon, it's knowing what all the acronyms mean, which are things that I never could have learned in the classroom. These are things that I only could have learned from being on the team, being around, talking to our engineers, and I've learned a lot from that, both practical and also just in terms of my personality and the way I show up in the world.

It's really important that people show up and continue to show up and the rest will follow.
