5G is well established in the US, and enhancements to 5G will continue for some time. The initial 6G standard will likely arrive in 2027, with deployments around 2030. While 2030 may be some time away, the ITU will provide its vision for 6G this year, and relevant studies from the 3GPP standardization body will likely begin in 2024. This presentation provides a personal view of what capabilities 6G should include. These predictions are based on the issues seen with 5G and innovations occurring in the lab that show promise for commercialization.
