Star Wars’ sound engineer Ben Burtt recorded the blaster sound effect, used in virtually every subsequent film and spinoff, with a contact microphone and a hammer.

The Design Initiative at Dartmouth (DIAD) invites you to join us in the new ECSC Makerspace to build your own contact microphone on Thursday May 19th from 2:30 - 4:30. Any skill level, from padawan to Jedi knight, is welcome.

This workshop is part of an Introduction to Sound Engineering series, where the art of film and the techniques of engineering come together.
