Dean's Office

The Dean's Office facilitates school-wide planning efforts, oversees the effective use of resources and the continuous improvement of operations, and helps shape, lead and implement programs and initiatives that operationalize the strategic priorities of Thayer School of Engineering. In addition, the Office helps define and uphold Dartmouth Engineering and college-wide policies.

In consultation with members of engineering and College-wide communities, the Dean works with colleagues to create and realize a shared vision for the School. The Dean is responsible for supporting and advancing the programs, teaching, and scholarship of the faculty, enriching the learning environment for students, and setting the strategic plan. The Dean's Office is located in room 204 of Cummings Hall (map).

  • Manage faculty appointment, mentoring, review and renewal processes
  • Schedule faculty meetings and build agenda
  • Manage activity of and communications with Thayer's Board of Advisors
  • Advance matters requiring the attention of or action by the Board of Trustees
  • Manage and support data repository for faculty activities
  • Track and report data related to innovation (patents, startups)
  • Synthesize, summarize and report data to inform decision making and help tell Thayer's story in internal and external surveys and other materials
  • Advance Thayer's Inclusive Excellence and Diversity Plan
  • Plan select Thayer-wide events, including lectures and annual signature events
  • Schedule Thayer common spaces, including the Great Hall, GlycoFi Atrium, and Jackson Conference Room
