Career Services for Students

Engineering Career Services is in room 113 of MacLean Engineering Sciences Center (ESC) in Dartmouth's West End District. Dartmouth offers a wide range of internships and research opportunities so you can try out a variety of fields through real-world, hands-on experience.

An engineering degree from Dartmouth prepares you to identify problems in the world that need human-centered solutions. In doing so, our graduates often create their own jobs—and new jobs for others.

Handshake

Handshake is the platform used for students and alumni to schedule appointments, search for jobs and internships, and view events. Students must be enrolled in classes to log in to their Handshake account. Please wait approximately 24 hours after enrolling before logging in. If you are not yet enrolled in classes, please do not attempt to create a Handshake account. If you have questions, please contact our office at engineering.career.services@dartmouth.edu.

  • Explore & Self Assess

    Engineering Career Services offers customized guidance to all of our students. You can explore your career options by meeting with a career coach.

  • Prepare

    The Handshakes Career Center Resources Library contains customized guides for:

    • Resumes and cover letters
    • Interviewing
    • Offer negotiation
    • Portfolio website or PowerPoint pdf that provides examples of your work and projects that highlight your skills, achievements, and intellect.

    Engineering Career Services also features a free 'Career Closet' in Rm 113, MacLean ESC providing business clothing donated by Thayer staff and faculty. Take what you like and return when you're done or feel free to keep it!

  • Find Opportunities

    Learn strategies for securing internships and full-time roles. With resources such as Handshake and LinkedIn, we will support you through the process.

  • Connect & Network

    Networking and connecting with others is an important part of the job and internship search. Visit our resources to learn more about expanding your network.

    Portfolio

    A portfolio is typically a website that you create, or a PowerPoint (converted into a .pdf) that provides examples of your work and projects. The best portfolio effortlessly highlights your skills, achievements, and intellect.
