Injuries and Temporary Conditions

Temporary conditions such as broken bones, concussions, surgeries, or acute illnesses are generally not regarded as a disability under the law, but it can impair your ability to fully participate in classes or student life.

In order to qualify as a disability, the degree of functional limitation and the duration (generally longer than six months) of such impairments must be substantial enough to be considered a disability as defined by law. 

While not every impairment is considered a disability, Dartmouth has resources available to support students through temporary illness, injury, or conditions.

Students experiencing a temporary condition that impacts their schooling are encouraged to contact Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Holly Wilkinson to discuss possible remedies.

Supportive measures related to routine pregnancy or an active Title IX case are coordinated through the Title IX office.
