Dartmouth Engineering Creates International Degree Program with Peru's UTEC

For the first time, Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering has partnered outside the US to establish a new 4+1 program allowing engineering students at Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) in Lima, Peru to earn both an undergraduate and master's degree in five years.

With the goal of expanding and enhancing global education and collaboration, Dartmouth Engineering Dean Alexis Abramson and UTEC General Director Javier Bustamante Romero signed an agreement for the new program this week. By law, UTEC students must take five years of engineering curriculum to earn a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree. These students now have a path for completing their first four years at UTEC and spending their fifth year in the Master of Engineering (MEng) program at Dartmouth.

"This new international program is a win-win for Dartmouth and UTEC," says Dean Abramson. "Students on both sides will benefit from a richer experience, being exposed to more diverse perspectives, which is essential for effective problem solving—especially given our human-centered approach to engineering."

"Having a partnership with an Ivy League institution like Dartmouth will definitely complement our student's education in an institution with high quality standards," says Bustamante, "but also will open doors for new possibilities and give our students a competitive edge in the global marketplace."

Thayer will begin accepting applications next Spring for the first students to arrive in Fall of 2025.
