Follow-up on Student and Exchange Visitor Program Guidance

Date: July 16, 2020
From: Dean Alexis Abramson

Dear Thayer community,

I wanted to be sure that our community is aware of the U.S. government's decision earlier this week to rescind the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) guidance that would have prevented students holding F-1 and M-1 visas from taking a full online course load this fall, as well as share with you Dartmouth's statement on this recent decision.

This news brings relief to our entire community, in particular our international students, who faced an uncertain fall term. While I welcome this decision, I also recognize that the ongoing pandemic still poses hardships for travel, housing, and other challenges for our international students. As we continue to plan and prepare for the new academic year, we will work with Dartmouth to identify possible solutions for instruction, housing, and supporting our students as best we can during these times.

Please refer to Dartmouth’s Office of Visa and Immigration Service for periodic updates on the SEVP guidance and other federal immigration developments, and be sure to reach out to us if you have questions or need support.
