Geomagnetically Induced Fields (Magnetic and Electric)

Real (solid lines) and imaginary (dotted lines) strength of the induced magnetic and electric field at the surface of a uniformly conducting Earth due to a line current flowing in the ionosphere overhead. Curves are shown for several periods (inverse frequency) of interest from 1 to 60 minutes. Amplitudes and phase comparisons are made to the external (driving) fields show as dark, dashed lines.
