A1    First cnrs Set in place, RH turn halfway.

A2    Second corners repeat A1.

B       Facing partner, fall back taking two single steps; partners Cross R shoulder, turning right intoÉSingle File Circle (CW) (no hands) all the way around, partners 2-hand turn.

 

Bar a Bar (longways, duple minor)

A.     All meet and turn s. R. Circle 4 once around.

A.     Lead neighbor out & back. Partners bk to bk.

B.      1st corners change, 2nd corners change.

         Women lead through men and cast back.

         Face up & down and lead forward (& back) with partner to meet other couple.

         2s cast, 1s lead up, all turn 1/2 with partner.

         Half pousette (CCW: M1 moves bk to begin)

 

BarbariniÕs Tambourine (longways, duple minor)

A.     First corners cast L (man down, woman up) around nbrs, pass by L shoulder in ctr, cast R around partner to end in each otherÕs place

A.     Second corners do similar: cast right, pass R sh, cast L around N (all progr & improper)

B.      All fall bk & cross to proper side, facing N; with N, back to back; partners, back to back

B.      4 changes of rights and lefts (with hands), starting with partner (8); partners two-hand turn once around

 

Easter Morn (longways, duple) by Erna-Lynne Bogue

A.     Cpl.1 cast down (2s move up); half fig-8 thru 2s

A.     With next couple along the line, R.H. across;

         with original couple, L.H. across

B.      Original foursome, circle right; Cpl.2 gate the ones up thru center and back to prog. place

B.      Cpl.1 lead down thru new Cpl. 2 below, cast up; all turn partner two hands to end proper (ones turn 1-1/2 while twos turn once around)

 

Fair and Softly (longways, duple minor)

A      Taking hands in long lines, all step-set up & down (6); Cpl 1 cast (2s moving up), lead thru new 2s and cast back to prog. place, facing up (2s face down) (18)

B1     4 changes, starting w/ nbr: 2 changes w/ hands, 3rd change R sh w/ nbr, 4th change two-hand turn with partner;  (12) 2s lead down thru 1s and cast back, end facing up

B2     Cpl 1 face down (facing new 2s), repeat B1 ending w/ 2s leading up thru Couple 1

 

Fandango (three-couple longways set)

I.       A. Cpl.1 turn by R hand; long cast to 2nd pl.

         A. Cpl.1 turn by L hand; cast to 3rd place

         B. Slipping circle 6 to L; and R

         B. Cpl.1 lead to top; cast to middle (3s move down), meet, and turn single down

II.      A. Contrary corners (2 hand): M1 turn W3 while W1 turn M2; cpl.1 turn 2-hands

         A. M1 turn W2 2-hands while W1 turn M3; Cpl.1 turn 1½  in ctr (end skipping)

Fenterlarick  (longways, duple minor)

Dance by Joyce Walker

A.     First corners side; first corners set toward each other and turn single back to place

A.     Second corners the same

B.      Women lead thru the M,  cast back to place; Men lead through the W, then cast bk to place

B.      Partner left hand 3/4  to form line of four up and down the set; First woman and second man right-hand turn 1-1/2 while first man and second woman continue around (CCW) to change places and meet partner; partner turn left hand 3/4 to progressed places

 

HambletonÕs Round O (longways, triple minor)

A.     Couple1 cast to 2nd place (2s move up), M1 hey with Couple3 passing W3 by L while W1 hey w/ Couple2 (pass M2 by L). Couple1 turn 2-hands in middle (last 2 bars)

B.      W1 & M2 (in 1st corner positions) change places, M1 & W2 same, circle L half & all t.s. R; face ptnr to start circular hey (4 changes)

 

n  Indian Summer (longways, duple minor)

Dance by Elizabeth Goossen

A       First corners set, moving in, turn single to place; Same two, gypsy once around

         Second corners do the same

B       Balance the ring; as dancers move back, they move 1/4 of the way around the ring, CW; repeat (ending progressed and improper)

         All set to partner, cross passing R shoulder

         Ones right hands across with couple below, then LH across with couple above

 

Leather Lake House (longways, duple minor)

A1    First and second cpls set to partners, then two changes of circular hey (no hands); Repeat to places.

A2    Cpl1 cross & cast below as Twos lead up (6); Ones (in middle) two-turn half-way (& face down). (2); First couple lead down thru third, cast to second place (8)

B1     First lady circle L w/ Cpl2 while first man circles w/ Cpl3; All turn partners R hand.

B2     First lady circle R with couple3, first man with couple2; All turn partners left hand once around to these progressed places.

 

Lilliburlero (longways, duple minor)

A.     Cpl.1 lead down thru 2s and cast up;

         2s lead up thru 1s and cast down

B.      1st corners change, 2nd corners change;

         Nbrs fall bk a double, come fd, turning sgl R

B.      Partners change (pass R shoulders), neighbors change places, moving backwards along line and passing R shoulders; partners face and circular hey, 3 changes, skipping

Newcastle (square for 4 couples)    3 parts

I.       A. Into center & back; set to prtnr, set to crnr

         A. Repeat

         B. Arm R. partner; all 4 men L hands across while women skip CW around outside

         B. Arm L partner; women R hands across while men skip CCW around outside

II.      A. Partners side; slow set & honor, on to next

         A. Repeat with new partner

         B. New side couples lead in, return & make arch; others cast out, thru arch, ret. to place (skipping step)

         B. Repeat, reversing roles

III.    A. Arm R current partner; arm L 1½  to change places

         A. Repeat with new partner, end in lines of 4 up and down the hall

         B. Lines fall back, come forward; turn single, pass R and form new lines across hall (former ends now in middle)

         B. Repeat, but ending in original place

 

n  Oxford Circus (longways, three couple set, mixer)

The Prince of Westborough (longways, duple minor)

Dance by Paula Kelley

A      Groups of 4 (hands not joined) balance into the center & out; all turn single R; RH star once round. Same groups balance in & out; all turn single L; LH star once round.

B       1st corners cross L and leisurely turn single R to face in while 2nd corners turn single R and cross R; All circle once round.

         Poussette CW half, 1st corners push to begin

         Draw poussette CW, 1st corners drawing partners, ending progressed & proper

 

Take a Dance (longways, duple minor)

A.     Ones lead down between twos and cast up to place; two-hand turn once around

A.     Twos do same except leading up between ones

B.      Ones cross & go down one place, twos moving up; ones half figure 8 up through the twos

B.      4 changes of rights and lefts (hands), starting with right hand to partner

 

Wakefield Hunt (longways, triple minor)

A.     M1 casts below M2 (who moves up), sets to W3, and 2-hand turn 1x.

A.     W1 does similarly. 1s are now in 2nd place.

B.      Hands-six, slipping circle L & R.

B.      Ones gate down through 3s below and gate up through 2s above.

C.     Ones RH star with 3s; LH star with 2s.

C.     1s and 3s, circular hey, three changes (lots of time). At end, ones go down outside of next 2s (who move up to become 3s in new set.)

 

n  The Zither Man (longways, 3 couple set, top couple improper)

A1    Top 2 couples half pousette w/partner, men forward

         Bottom 2 couples half pousette w/neighbor, men forward

A2    Bottom 2 couples half pousette w/partner, women forward

B1     Full mirror hey (middles bulge)

B2     Top 2 couples mirror back-to-back, tops splitting middles, but middle couple backs all the way to bottom of the set while bottom couple turns 2 hands halfway and casts up to middle place; Hands 6, circle L halfway.

 

Practice sessions will be held 7–9:30 PM in the multi-purpose room of the Marion Cross School in Norwich (enter through front door of school, near Church Street), on alternating Tuesdays & Wednesdays: September 11, 19, 25, and October 3. There is no charge; contribu­tions for the musicians are encouraged. A review session will be held in Fairlee on the day of the ball from 1–4 PM.
