From Sainte-Adresse to London in 1918

This postcard was sent from the provisional post office at Sainte-Adresse (in France) on 10 May 1918 to London in England. Insufficient franking necessitated the two postage-due stamps.

Characteristics:
  • Three Red Cross stamps: 1c+1c, 2c+2c and 5c+5c
plus two postage-due stamps of 1916,
on an English reply card prestamped with 1/2 penny
  • No cancel of arrival
but there is little doubt that the card has actually traveled
  • Handwritten note in English on the back
  • Rust spot on the 5c+5c stamp
Estimated value: $45
[value mostly attributed to the two postage-due stamps]
