Brussels local in 1919



This cover was sent from Brussels-6 on 6 August 1919 to Brussels-1 where it arrived an hour later. The square block of 25 is the largest known used block of 1918 Red Cross stamps.

Characteristics:
  • 2c+2c in jumbo block of 25 with sheet margin
  • Total franking = 50c
  • Cancel of arrival on back
  • Nice calligraphy; clear cancels
  • Major vertical fold, but not touching the stamps
  • Minor rust spots in the margin
  • One stamp on lower edge with cropped corner
