From Military Post to Amsterdam in 1918



This postcard was sent from a soldier with the Belgian Army, then in Neuilly-le-Vendin (in France), on 18 April 1918 to Amsterdam (in The Netherlands). The picture depicts the ruins of the railway station in Senlis (in France) after the bombing.

Characteristics:
  • Red Cross 1c+1c (twice) and 2c+2c, plus two French stamps
  • Mixed franking not unusual during wartime but not very common either
  • Probably exact franking
  • Foreign departure
  • Foreign destination, but not exotic
  • No cancel of arrival
  • Circular purple cancel DF and alphanumeric mark, both on address side
