Scholarly Interests

Environmental Transport Processes, Turbulent Dispersion
Environmental Fluid Mechanics
Industrial Ecology, Sustainable Design

My research interests lie at the intersection of fluid mechanics and environmental engineering, and I am particularly interested in the many ways by which naturally occurring turbulence affects the fluid's motion and disperses its contents.

Another strong interest of mine is the avoidance of environmental impacts by design, and I am a proponent of Design for Environment, Life-Cycle Assessments, and Green Architecture. This interest is mostly reflected in my teaching at Dartmouth College and lecturing abroad.

Professional Activities

I am the founding editor and serve as Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Fluid Mechanics, a journal dedicated to basic and applied studies of natural fluid systems, particularly as agents for the transport and dispersion of environmental contamination.

I also study the physical oceanography of the Adriatic Sea. In this context, the form of fluid turbulence that interests me is the so-called mesoscale variability, the weather of the sea.
