FOOD: Several years ago, Dave Golber asked that we indicate where to go for croissants. Well, the truth is people don't come to Vermont for croissants, though there places you can buy CSOs (Croissaint Shaped Objects). Now, if what you want is a great slice of pie, check out the P&H truck stop just off I-91 at exit 17 (Wells River), north of Fairlee. We've sampled a number of their wide variety; they're good. You can also get a good pot roast and homemade bread (they bake over 300 loaves/day). The menu is in English and French; lots of Canadian truckers come through. While enjoying your pie, you can sit and watch for loggers who stir their coffee with their thumb. Now that's rural Vermont; who eats croissants, anyhow?
