Engineering in Action
You can exercise your skills in and beyond the classroom in a variety of ways.
HELP Worldwide
Use your engineering skills to make a difference in developing nations. Student members of Dartmouth Humanitarian Engineering Leadership Projects (HELP) Worldwide have designed and built clean water, biogas, micro-hydropower systems in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Dartmouth Formula Racing
Join Dartmouth Formula Racing to build a fuel-efficient car for the Formula Hybrid™ International Competition, which Dartmouth students founded to challenge their peers to improve hybrid technologies.
The Big Green Bus
Join the crew of The Big Green Bus, which Dartmouth students converted to run on waste vegetable oil. Each summer it travels around the country to raise awareness about alternative energy issues.
Schweitzer Fellowships
Serve the local community and encourage the next generation of engineers by becoming a Schweitzer Fellow. Recent projects include mentoring a girl’s team that placed in the annual FIRST Lego League Robotics Competition and designing a carbon-credit trading simulation to help high school students understand the connections between environment, business, and public policy.
The James O. Freedman Presidential Scholar Program
The Presidential Scholars Program enlists faculty and researchers to mentor juniors through part-time, paid research assistantships. The program provides opportunities for students to experience research first-hand and is intended to prepare students for undertaking senior honors theses.
Women in Science Project
Join a supportive community of students and professors. WISP, dedicated to encouraging women to pursue science, math, and engineering, provides first-year research opportunities, mentors, and opportunities to meet working scientists.
