The Dartmouth Difference

No barriers. No limits.

While many engineering schools have begun to promote interdisciplinary thinking, Dartmouth has offered truly integrated engineering for more than 40 years. We’ve always believed that nothing should stand in the way of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

That’s why you won’t find departments here, and you won’t be limited to a single area of engineering.

Instead, you’ll study Engineering Sciences. You’ll master broad principles you can apply in all areas of engineering as you solve real-world problems. You’ll explore a variety of disciplines before delving into a specialty of your choice.

In addition, you’ll widen your perspective through the full range of liberal arts. In fact, half your classes will be in subjects other than engineering. You can even combine the engineering sciences major with another major — including the sciences, economics, studio art, or public policy.

The result? You’ll gain an understanding of the world. You’ll be able to see the big picture. You’ll be ready to lead and innovate in any field.

Open Doors

Dartmouth has one of the smallest and most personal of the nation’s leading engineering schools, yet it offers the broadest possible education. All doors are open here — to project labs, to faculty, to the entire Dartmouth campus, and beyond.

In our project labs, you’ll design and build innovations by working with faculty to discover new processes, systems, and technologies. Dartmouth professors are as devoted to teaching you as they are to conducting world-class research. In fact, all your classes are taught by professors, not graduate students — which is one of the reasons Dartmouth is ranked #1 for undergraduate teaching.

Working in the Couch Student Project Lab
Working together on team projects, Dartmouth engineers make connections that maximize innovative thinking.

You’ll attend seminars and symposia and listen to experts from around the world. You’ll also interact with students and faculty throughout Dartmouth. You can confer with business students and professors at the Tuck School of Business — ranked among the top in the nation. And you can collaborate with Dartmouth Medical School students, faculty, and clinicians on medical-related technologies.

At Dartmouth, your opportunities are wide open.
