Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.)

The Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) program is a professional engineering program accredited by ABET, Inc., the accreditation board for engineering and technology.

Dartmouth undergraduates who plan to pursue the B.E. can use these sample programs as models for designing their own programs.

Program Objectives

B.E. program goals are to educate students within the context of Thayer School's educational philosophy and the accreditation requirements. Graduates of the B.E. program have the experience, skills, and knowledge to:

  • apply mathematics, science, and engineering to identify and solve engineering problems
  • design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data
  • design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  • function on multidisciplinary teams
  • identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  • exercise professional and ethical responsibility
  • communicate effectively
  • understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  • recognize the need for and engage in life-long learning
  • understand contemporary issues
  • use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
