We do engineering and more

Innovators - The box does not exist

Ultra Capacitors

These central energy storage elements are the key to the Dartmouth Formula Hybrid race car. Thayer students launched an annual Formula Hybrid International Competition to spur their peers to develop the next generation of fuel-efficient hybrid cars.

Student Life

Yes, there is life outside the classroom

Studying engineering will take time, but not ALL your time. Our students take pride in balancing the challenges of earning a degree with the benefits of enjoying other interests along the way.

Beyond Thayer School's walls, engineering students have access to all that Dartmouth and the surrounding communities have to offer. And even within the School, there is no shortage of opportunities to gather together outside of class.

Students gather in The Great Hall

Engineering students gather in The Great Hall to study, discuss, and socialize

The Great Hall provides a central space to eat lunch with friends, watch a student design competition, or join in one of the monthly birthday parties (yes, there is cake). At the Friday afternoon Jones Seminars students, faculty, and staff convene to hear guest lecturers share their expertise on a wide range of topics. A variety of student groups offer opportunities to get involved and make a difference outside the classroom, and several student councils foster communication and participation throughout the School. In addition, the Dartmouth Society of Engineers (DSE) Student Chapter organizes outreach activities including exam study sessions and intramural sports teams.
