About ATLP

The Abbot Technology Leaders Program (ATLP)—named for Henry Merriam Abbot D'45—brings leaders from industry, government, and academia to Thayer School for two days of purposeful interaction with students and faculty.

"This effort—our engineering equivalent of the executive-in-residence programs successfully utilized in business professional education—encourages accomplished technology leaders to work closely with our faculty and students."
—Former Dean Lewis Duncan, the program's founder in 1999

The main goals of the program are to:

  • Access outside perspective and knowledge
  • Spark interest in different technology areas and career paths
  • Facilitate relationships between Thayer School and other technology leaders

"So much of the educational process is organized around units called 'courses'—but there are many more ways to learn. [ATLP] stirs things up a bit—it gets people talking about what's going on out there."
—Professor Bill Lotko
