The ROMI lathe has a speed range from 50 - 2,500 RPM with a 13" swing.
These features, coupled with a digital readout, makes this lathe
a good choice for turning almost any part. The controls function
much like the ones on the
South Bend lathe.
THE CONTROLS
ROUGH/FINISHED CUT BUTTON
This changes the effort required for the automatic disengaging system
to release the feed gears. For finished work the effort is
minimal while rough work requires more force to release the gears.
FEED ROD ROTATION
This switch will change the direction of the power feed on the carriage.
THREAD/FEED CONTROLS
Changing the combination of these four knobs will vary the threads/inch
or feed/inch. A table on the machine lists the combinations for
different threads and feeds.
SPEED SELECTOR LEVERS
These work just like the spindle speed levers on the South Bend lathe.
The lathe must be stopped to change the gears.
DIGITAL READOUT
The digital readout has been added to this lathe to increase the
accuracy and efficiency of turning parts. The cross-feed and
longitudinal axis displacement can be read down to five ten thousandths
of an inch, unlike the other lathes in the shop which only go down to
thousandths of an inch. The readout can display either in
millimeters or inches.
