Logan Lathe

Logan Lathe
Logan lathes are used for very basic turning, and unlike the previous machines does not have the power to turn large parts made of steel. As for aluminum, brass, and plexi-glass, this machine will work just as well as the others in the shop. One of the logans (not pictured here) can be set up with a grinding wheel.

THE CONTROLS

The controls on the Logans include power feeds, threading, and a variable speed control. The handwheels work just like the other lathes as does the table lock and half nut lever. The power feed lever operates in the same manner as the LeBlond and South Bend lathes.

SPINDLE LOCK
The spindle lock must be pulled in order to change collets. In order to engage the lock the handle must be pulled back and up while turning the spindle by hand. The lock is released by pulling the handle up and pushing it back in.

POWER FEED DIRECTION
This handle controls the direction of the power feed on the carriage. To change direction the handle must squeezed and then pulled up.

START/STOP
Starting the machine is done by pressing the large green button and stopping the spindle is done by pushing the handle below the start button down. If continuous pressure is applied to the stop lever the spindle will stop faster.

VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL
While the lathe is running the speed can be changed by turning the variable speed control to the left or right. There is a dial to the left of the handle to display the speed of the spindle.
