Lynd Research Lab: Microbial Physiology

The Lynd lab has a long-standing focus on the fundamentals of microbial cellulose utilization and features of microbial physiology important for advanced biomass conversion processes. Current and recent work addresses:

• Bioenergetics (Zhang et al, 2005a)
• Kinetics and documentation of enzyme-microbe synergy (Lu et al, 2006)
• Development of methods for studying microbial cellulose utilization (Zhang et al, 2003; Panikov et al, 2009)
• Control of cellulase synthesis (Zhang et al, 2005b)
• Surface microbiology and substrate capture (Lynd et al, 2006)
• Product tolerance and inhibition
• Utilization of pretreated substrates
• The relation between dormant stages, arrest of metabolism, and environmental stress
