ENGS 175 - Energy Systems (Spring Term):

This course presents a systems approach to the transformation, transportation and consumption of energy as full supply chains. Throughout the course, an emphasis will be placed on the spatio-temporal characteristics of energy systems. Consequently, students will gain an appreciation for the design, planning, and especially operation of energy systems. These aspects will be discussed from technical, economic, and policy perspectives. Students will also learn to formulate and solve many classical energy systems optimization problems. The course will specifically address interactions with the environmental context and other built infrastructure systems as energy systems transition from a resource stock to a resource income economy. Deeper treatment will be given to systems solutions in the electric power system, the energy demand side, and the complementary role of natural gas.
