Degree Requirements
The Master of Engineering Management (M.E.M.) curriculum includes mathematics, engineering management, design, project leadership, and core topics of an M.B.A. program.
M.E.M. Courses
Mathematics (2 courses)
- ENGS 103 Statistical Methods in Engineering
- ENGM 184 Introduction to Optimization Methods
Engineering Design Sequence (3 courses)
Engineering Management (4 courses)
Engineering Electives (choose 1 course)
- ENGS 157 Chemical Process Design
- ENGS 171 Industrial Ecology
- ENGG 176 Design for Manufacturing
- ENGM 185 Topics in Manufacturing Design and Processes
- ENGM 186 Technology Project Management
- ENGM 188 Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship
- ENGM 189 Topics in Engineering Management (includes 2 half-term courses; if chosen to meet the engineering management elective requirement, both ENGM 189 half term courses must be taken)
- Other course that may be offered
Free electives (choose 3)
NOTE: The M.E.M. tuition covers 2 courses from Tuck School; extra tuition will occur for a third Tuck course.
Typical Program—M.E.M. Only
The following is a typical program for a student with an ABET-accredited B.S. degree in engineering or its equivalent from a school other than Dartmouth. (Students who do not hold such a degree may be required to take additional coursework to complete the M.E.M. degree.)
Fall
- ENGM 184 Introduction to Optimization Methods
- ENGM 181 Marketing
- ENGS 190 Engineering Design Methodology and Project Initiation
Winter
- ENGS 103 Statistical Methods in Engineering
- ENGS 290 Engineering Design Methodology and Project Completion
- Free elective
Spring
Summer
- ENGG 390 M.E.M. Project (Typically the project is accomplished within the context of an industry internship with the final presentation given in the Fall term.)
Fall
- ENGM 182 Organizational Behavior
- Engineering management elective
- Free elective

Typical Program—Combined B.E./M.E.M.
Dartmouth A.B. graduates who majored in Engineering Sciences will normally complete the B.E. degree before completing the M.E.M. degree. Since Dartmouth A.B. and B.E. courses may both be counted toward the M.E.M. degree, Dartmouth students typically complete the M.E.M. degree with 9 courses beyond the B.E. degree.
