Program Purpose

The mission of Thayer School's M.E.M. program is to develop managers who understand both the engineering and business aspects of technology.

Engineers holding a Thayer School M.E.M. degree can:

  • work in research and development, design, or manufacturing
  • thrive in a small start-up company or a large industrial complex
  • balance marketing demands with product feasibility and ethical considerations
  • apply the finer points of managerial analysis

In addition, they are skilled communicators and great team players.

The interdisciplinary program immerses students in an integrated approach to the engineering design and technical management processes. The coursework gives them experience in researching the marketplace, designing appropriate and feasible products, manufacturing prototypes, and managing the entire process from concept to customer.

At Thayer School, the emphasis is on quality over quantity. The goal is to develop individuals who have both "conscience and competency."
