The 2009 season marks a major
change for Dartmouth Formula Racing. This year the team has
decided to focus solely on the development of a new entry for the
Formula Hybrid competition, and for the first time in its history DFR
will not be participating in Formula SAE competitions. This
decision was ultimately made with the hopes of improving team
performance and results by putting a greater, more consolidated effort
into one hybrid project. The team is highly focused in
bringing the level of performance seen in Formula SAE competitions
together with innovations in hybrid drive-train technology seen at
Formula Hybrid. The team has welcomed the challenge of building a
hybrid racecar capable of dominating competitions and simultaneously
expanding the threshold of hybrid performance. To reach our
goals, the team has developed three senior design projects based
onvehicle dynamics, energy generation and electric powertrain
development. These design gropus are also working with other
graduate project teams focused on chassis design, electronic control,
and instrumentation. This new team dynamic stemming from
experienced leadership will provide DFR the formula for success it is
seeking.
