DFR-E85
For the second time in as many years, the team made the cross country trip to FSAE West in Fontana, California in June of 2008. While developed by a team that had almost no previous competition experience, the 2008 E-85 car known colloquially as Julie exemplified DFR’s strong racing heritage on her trip to the California desert.  Sporting the 3rd generation of DFR’s highly praised turbo-charged E-85 engine package, a dry-sump oil system, and a completely redesigned front and rear mono-shock vehicle dynamics package, the car ufortunately faced unexpected challenges that led to a 31st placed finish in a field of over 80 cars.  Unable to handle the triple digit heat in California, overheating issues derailed all hopes of a higher finish during the driver transition in the endurance race.  Despite these complications, Julie has since proven to be a phenomenally dependable car, racing in SCCA events over the summer and serving as the driver-training car this fall.  Furthermore, nearly the entire team has returned for the 2009 production year, adding a wealth of knowledge and experience for development of the 2009 hybrid car.
