Internal Scientific Advisory Committee

The Internal Scientific Advisory Committee reviews progress in the prior quarter, current considerations, and plans for the upcoming months. The Committee convenes key leadership on the Dartmouth campus to assure that the DCCNE secures the institutional collaboration and assistance identified by the Committee, including:

  • Alan R. Eastman, Ph.D. (Chair), Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology; Co-Director, NCCC Molecular Therapeutics Program
  • Joseph J. BelBruno, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry, Dartmouth College
  • William R. Green, Ph.D., Professor of Microbiology & Immunology
  • Mark A. Israel, M.D., Professor of Genetics and of Pediatrics; Director, Norris Cotton Cancer Center
  • Richard I. Rothstein, M.D., Professor of Medicine; Professor of Surgery; Chair, Department of Medicine
  • Martin N. Wybourne, Ph.D., Sears Professor of Physics; Vice Provost for Research

External Scientific Advisory Board

DCCNE will convene annually an External Scientific Advisory Board (EAB) of experienced reviewers and nationally recognized scientists with expertise in areas of importance to the program. EAB agendas will include explicit requests for comment on current DCCNE deliberations. EAB meetings will result in written reports of specific findings and recommendations. The EAB will have a designated Chair to moderate its deliberations and coordinate input from each of the participants. The composition of the EAB will await NCI designation of the funded members of its Nanotechnology Alliance and its leadership.

  • Tayyaba Hasan, Ph.D., Professor of Dermatology, Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital
  • Carl June, M.D., Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
  • Donglu Shi, Ph.D., Professor of Engineering, University of Cincinnati
  • K. Dane Wittrup, C.P. Dubbs Professor of Chemical Engineering and Biological Engineering, MIT; Associate Director, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, MIT

Clinical Translation Advisory Committee

To ensure ongoing emphasis on translation of nanotechnology insights to clinical application to oncology considerations, the DCCNE maintains a dedicated Clinical Translation Advisory Committee. The Committee discusses potential applications for developments emanating from the DCCNE research projects, and defines clinical observations and challenges that might be better understood through nanotechnology approaches. The committee includes Dartmouth individuals with significant experience in translational research and oncologic researchers from the two clinical populations (i.e., breast and ovarian cancer) targeted by the DCCNE initiatives:

  • Lionel D. Lewis, M.D. (Chair), Professor of Medicine and of Pharmacology & Toxicology; Director, NCCC Clinical Pharmacology Core
  • Bradley A. Arrick, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Medicine; Section Chief, Hematology/Oncology
  • Richard J. Barth, M.D., Associate Professor of Surgery; Co-Director, NCCC Immunology & Cancer Immunotherapy Program
  • Leslie R. DeMars, M.D., Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology; Director, NCCC Gynecology Oncology Program
  • James DiRenzo, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology; Research Director, NCCC Breast Cancer Program
  • Alan Eastman, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology; Co-Director, NCCC Molecular Therapeutics Program
  • Marc S. Ernstoff, M.D., Professor of Medicine; NCCC Associate Director for Clinical Research
  • Alan C. Hartford, M.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine; Acting Chief, Section of Radiation Oncology
  • Peter A. Kaufman, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine; NCCC Breast Cancer Program and Molecular Therapeutics Program
  • Keith D. Paulsen, Robert A. Pritzker Professor of Biomedical Engineering; DCCNE Deputy Director
  • Harold M. Swartz, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Radiology and of Community & Family Medicine; Co-Director, NCCC Cancer Imaging & Radiobiology Program

Translational Research and Commercialization Advisory Committee

The Translational Research and Commercialization Advisory Committee reviews results from DCCNE projects that offer promise for investment through commercial partnerships. Participants on the OTRC Advisory Committee include:
