DBEC: Michael Mayor Named to Allyn Professorship
Michael Mayor, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon noted for his research in biomedical engineering, has been named to DMS's William N. and Bessie Allyn Professorship of Surgery.
Michael has pioneered several joint replacement techniques in a quarter-century of collaborative research and surgery at DMS. He is the second recipient of the Allyn Chair, replacing Robert Crichlow, M.D., who held the post until his recent retirement.
William G. Allyn, a 1932 graduate of Dartmouth College, created the professorship in 1984 in honor of his parents. His father, William N. Allyn, founded Welch-Allyn, one of the first companies to use fiber optic technology in medical instruments. The aim of the endowment is to promote interaction between engineering and medicine.
