DBEC: Accelerated Aging of Polyethylene

We are continuing studies to distinguish the effects of polyethylene processing variables on oxidative degradation. Some of the variables we are attempting to control for are: shelf time, shelf temperature, radiation dose, storage medium, accelerated aging time, aging gas environment. This study is aimed at understanding the basic thermodynamics and reactions of the oxidation process in ways that relate to both the existing implanted base of polyethylene bearings, and to the new polyethylenes being produced currently.
