DBEC: Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hips - The Squeaky Wheel?

 

The performance of ceramic-on-ceramic hips is being investigated, with an emphasis on understanding the phenomenon of squeaking, which is a significant concern for this segment of the hip market. Retrieved hips are assessed for wear and damage. Retrievals and never-implanted components are tested and instrumented for squeaking and vibration upon articulation under controlled load and range of motion. Finite element modeling is being carried out to evaluate vibration modes of components and assemblies.
