Technology Project Management

Course Description

Project Management focuses on "Planning and Organizing" as well as "Directing and Controlling" of resources to complete a set of non-routine tasks, within a specified period of time, that meet prescribed goals and objectives. Project Management is simultaneously behavioral, and quantitative, and systematic. The course covers topics in project selection, planning, scheduling and controlling associated with applications such as new product development, technology implementation, and construction. Elements of a disciplined Project Management process along with interpersonal skills required by an effective Project Manager are presented. This course is aimed at both business and engineering students and combines reading, problem solving, and case-oriented activities.

Course Objectives

  1. Given the specifics of a case or homework description, the student will be able to correctly analyze a project management "situation" and recommend a set of actions, a Recovery Plan, to counter the negative consequences of the "situation".

  2. Given the specifics of a case or homework description, the student will be able to identify a set of alternative actions, based on analysis, which would have avoided problems during project execution, Risk Assessment and Contingency Planning.
