Typically, M.S. and Ph.D. students are fully funded through research and do not need to apply for financial aid.
M.E.M. financial aid is need-based and is in the form of partial tuition scholarships. After an M.E.M. internship or after any leave term during the M.E.M. program, Thayer School expects the student to contribute a minimum of $3000 toward tuition costs.
Download the
Thayer School B.E. and M.E.M. Financial Aid Information Sheet (PDF).
Fill out the application form. See application details below.
U.S. applicants should fill out the online PROFILE application form. Thayer School's PROFILE number is 3355. PROFILE will process your information and provide Thayer School with a Financial Need Analysis Report to determine need-based aid.
International applicants should complete the
International Student Financial Aid Application (PDF). Return your completed application and supporting documents to:

Students planning to complete B.E. and M.E.M. requirements simultaneously should submit a B.E. program plan along with the M.E.M. application to be considered for "B.E." aid for any portion of the program. The B.E. program plan is available through Banner Student.
Financial aid received for the first year does not necessarily carry over into the second year. Students planning to enroll in the M.E.M. program (who will, therefore, be at Thayer School for more than one academic year) have to re-file the PROFILE application of International Student Financial Aid Application each year.
Dependent or independent?
B.E. applicants file as a dependent student and must include parental information. Exceptions include students who are:
M.E.M. applicants are considered independent of their parents and do not include parental information when applying for aid.
M.E.M. financial aid is need-based and partial tuition scholarships are capped.
B.E./M.E.M. candidates from Dartmouth who plan to work simultaneously on B.E. and M.E.M. requirements should include parental information so that both B.E. and M.E.M. level aid may be calculated by Thayer School. For the time a student is completing the B.E. requirements (generally 1 to 3 terms), Thayer School will grant whichever aid is higher, B.E. or M.E.M.
Thayer School makes financial aid decisions as soon as possible after the results of the PROFILE Financial Need Analysis Report from the College Board or the International Student Financial Aid Application are received.
Paid hourly employment as a Teaching Assistant may also be available for qualified students.
